Of all the seven sacraments, First Eucharist, or Holy Communion, is the most central and important to Catholicism. This Sacrament is one of the Sacraments of Initiation.
Even though we are required to receive the Eucharist at least once a year (Easter Duty), and the Church urges us to receive Communion frequently (daily, if possible) - it is called a sacrament of initiation. Like Baptism and Confirmation, it brings us into the fullness of our life in Christ.
Children enrolled in the Religious Education program normally prepare to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation and First Eucharist in 2nd grade. The period of their preparation actually starts in 1st grade. In 2024, it is scheduled for April 27th.
Those who are baptized, but who have not received these, can still do so at an older age after also being prepared. This is usually achieved through our RCIA program.
One must make their First Penance, which is receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time, prior to receiving First Eucharist.
First Eucharist on Saturday, April 29th, 2023.
May our children continue to grow in knowledge and love of Jesus and may they continue to receive Him lovingly and reverently all the days of their lives.
